Listening to your Life

from Listening to your Life by Frederick Buechner

Listen to your life.

See it for the fathomless mystery that it is.

In the bordeom and pain of it no less than in the excitement and gladness:

touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it

because in the last analysis all moments are key moments,

and life itself is grace.

[God's] message is not written out in starlight . . .

rather it is written out for each of us

in the humdrum, helter-skelter events of each day . . .

Who knows what [God} will say to me today . . .

Not knowing is what makes today a holy mystery

as every day is a holy mystery.
